What Is Concrete Coring?

Concrete coring is a simple but essential task for any concrete structure. Once the concrete has been poured and set, you'll likely want access points for HVAC systems, plumbing, and wiring. That's where we come in. Our equipment can efficiently cut cores out of the concrete that allow these components to pass through. Put simply: concrete coring provides functionality to your concrete structure!

We offer the largest selection of core drill sizes (measured by outside diameter). We can drill from ¼” up to 44” and, depending on your needs, we can go larger. If we don’t have your size in stock, it can be ordered for job-specific needs.

Examples of Core Drilling

  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Scupper holes and drainage
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Lifting points of contact
  • Water fountain features
  • Handheld core drilling up to 3” in diameter

Why You Shouldn't DIY Concrete Coring

Are you thinking about core drilling your own concrete structure? It's simple enough to rent the equipment and the professionals make this task look easy, but you may want to stop and reconsider. Our core drillers undergo a significant amount of safety training and hands-on instruction with the core drilling equipment. This means they're able to take on this work without hurting themselves or damaging the equipment and structure.

Amateurs who try using core drilling equipment open themselves up to severe hazards. Not only do you risk injury, but improper handling of a core drill could result in damage to your concrete structure or the drill itself. This could lead to spending more money on fixes and more time spent re-doing the work. Instead, it's wise to leave this work to seasoned experts who can complete the job right the first time.

Concrete Sawing Company FAQs

Have a concrete-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • How much does concrete weigh?

A rough estimate is 150 pounds per cubic foot. Length X width X height (thickness) X 150 = weight of concrete.

  • How much clearance do you need to wall saw an opening?

To mount a wall saw, we will need 4 feet perpendicular to the wall (straight back from the wall) and 2 feet of clearance from one side (or top or bottom) of the opening.

  • Why must water be used when sawing concrete?

Water acts as a coolant and lubricant for the diamond impregnated blade and eliminates airborne dust.

  • What can I do to prepare the area for concrete sawing?

Start by clearing out all debris, furniture, carpet, and obstacles from the work area and access point. This can also include siding, sheetrock, and framing. Access to all sides of the work area will be necessary for cleanup and safety. Sawing concrete requires the use of water and will create a minimal amount of dusty mist, therefore, all trucks are equipped with wet vacuums for slurry containment and cleanup.

  • Will you remove and haul off the concrete debris?

Yes, we have a full-service removal crew, dump trucks and machinery for loading, breaking, and hauling off concrete to recycling yards.

  • Can concrete be ground down?

Yes, we have concrete floor grinders and scarifiers to reduce trip hazards and sloping concerns.

  • How close can you slab saw parallel to a wall?

The slab saw blade-guard needs approximately 2-3” clearance from the wall.

  • How close can you slab saw perpendicular to a wall?

The slab saw blade-guard needs approximately 3” clearance from the wall.

  • Can you saw concrete flush with a wall or floor?

    Yes.

  • Can you saw an opening without overcuts in the corners?

    Yes.

  • What is a lintel?

A lintel is a horizontal structural member (such as a beam) over an opening, which carries the weight of the wall above it. Lintels are usually associated with windows and doors but can apply to any weight-bearing element over an opening in a wall.
